The SF Family Friendly Workplace Ordinance (FFWO) poster is now available. You can find it here. Employers with 20 or more employees are subject to this new and should ensure that this posting is placed in a prominent location at the worksite prior to the law’s effective date (January 1, 2014).
The FFWO was passed by the Board of Supervisors on October 8, 2013. The FFWO requires employers with 20 or more employees to allow an eligible employee to request a flexible or predictable working arrangement to assist with caregiving responsibilities for (1) a child or children under the age of 18, (2) a person or persons with a serious health condition in a family relationship with the employee, or (3) a parent of the employee, age 65 or older. To be eligible to make a request, an employee must (1) be employed within the geographic boundaries of the City, (2) regularly work at least 8 hours per week, and (3) have been employed by the employer for 6 months or more. You can find my previous blog post about FFWO here.
Earlier today, the SF Board of Supervisors also heard an amendment to the FFWO. This amendment will make it clear that a covered employer under the law will be an employer with 20 or more employees anywhere. The final reading of and vote on this amendment is scheduled for January 7, 2014.
