On July 28, the State of California published a helpful resource for employers – the “COVID-19 Employer Playbook: Supporting a Safer Environment for Workers and Customers.”
Many of our clients have confessed to feeling some measure of “COVID Weariness” – the feeling of being overwhelmed and exhausted by the nonstop onslaught of information that is bombarding business owners (and everyone else), from every direction. Amidst COVID Weariness, the new Employer Playbook offers condensed, easily digestible, and very helpful information about operating one’s business in what seems likely to be our “new normal.”
The Employer Playbook covers what to do if there is an outbreak among your workforce – from how to communicate about it, to how to prevent further spread, to cleaning requirements, to returning to work after an outbreak. The Playbook also covers reporting requirements – how to record cases of COVID-19 among your workforce, and how to report to CalOSHA. The Playbook further covers the maze of various leave laws that apply – the California Family Rights Act; Paid Sick Leave; State Disability Insurance and Paid Family Leave; and Worker’s Compensation.
In addition, the Playbook also offers an Appendix of Resources, with helpful links for employers, helpful links for workers, and guidance – both general and specific, including tips for enforcing mask requirements.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call your team at Workplace Legal to help you navigate the pandemic maze. Stay healthy and safe!
